LTFRB: Jeepney operators may be issued show cause order for joining strike

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 8) — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Wednesday said show cause order may be issued to jeepney operators for abandoning their responsibilities as franchise holders to join the strike.

LTFRB Technical Division head Joel Bolano told CNN Philippines’ The Source the agency will issue show cause order if the agency sees enough evidence that jeepney operators violated their franchise.

He noted that jeepney operators have the responsibility to provide services to their respective routes as stated under the franchise granted to them by the government.

“They will be issued show cause order para sa due process na iko-conduct ng (for the due process to be conducted by the) LTFRB,” he said.

Sa show cause (order), magpapaliwagan po, it will be determined by the board ‘yung extent of the violations doon sa kanilang franchise,” he added.

In a briefing this earlier week, LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III warned that the agency will file administrative complaints against those who abandon their routes to join the strike.

Manibela chairman Mar Valbuena dared authorities to do so and see who will suffer from the consequences of their move.

Bolano said the two-day strike only had minimal effect, especially in the National Capital Region. He noted that the preparations done by several government agencies, including the deployment government vehicles offering free rides, were effective to address the impact of the strike.
