(CNN Philippines, January 15) — Barangay Ginebra overpowered the Bay Area Dragons, 114-99, in Game 7 of the finals to claim the PBA Season 47 Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
‘
Justin Brownlee carried Ginebra with 34 points, 12 assists, and eight rebounds with a record-breaking crowd of 54,589 fans in attendance.
‘
Christian Standhardinger was his usual reliable self for Ginebra, contributing 12 points and 10 rebounds. He was hailed the Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP).
‘
Ginebra fired on all cylinders from the opening whistle, in contrast to Bay Area’s cold shooting especially from the free throw line.
‘
Jamie Malonzo played his heart out for Ginebra as he stepped up in the second half with his hustle plays. He tallied 22 points and 17 rebounds.
‘
From a 28-point deficit, the Dragons were able to trim the lead to 13 points in the final quarter. But Ginebra had enough firepower to hold off any Bay Area rally and seal the victory for its 15th PBA championship overall.
