Metro Manila, Philippines – Celebrity-cardiologist Willie Ong is joining the Senate race for the 2025 midterm elections, he announced in a Facebook video on Monday, Sept. 30.
Ong said his wife will file the Certificate of Candidacy on his behalf on Wednesday, Oct. 2. The famous doctor is out of the country for his cancer treatment.

“Tatakbo tayo. Papakita natin tunay ang Diyos. This time, we’re gonna win it,” he said.
[Translation: We will run. We will prove that there is God. This time, we’re gonna win it]
Ong vowed to give his “best shot” despite his ailment.
He also said he is not siding with any political groups.
“I’ll do it the cleanest way. Hindi tayo nagte-threaten. Hindi tayo admin. Hindi tayo Duterte. Hindi tayo opposition,” Ong said. [Translation: I’ll do it the cleanest way. We’re not threatening. We’re not pro-administration. We’re not pro-Duterte. We’re not opposition]The celebrity doctor ran for vice-president as running mate of then-Manila Mayor Isko Moreno in 2022. He lost to Sara Duterte.
Ong also failed to secure a Senate seat in 2019.
