
Metro Manila, Philippines – The number of people who died due to severe tropical storm Kristine has risen to 81, nearly double of the tally recorded by the Office of Civil Defense on Friday.
This data is based on the monitoring dashboard by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Saturday, Oct. 26. Sixty-six people were reported injured, while 34 individuals remain missing. Over 4.2 million people were affected with half of them coming from the disaster-stricken Bicol region.More than 300,000 individuals are currently staying in evacuation centers, the NDRRMC said. Infrastructure damages stood at P203.8 million, while agriculture losses were pegged at P87.5 million.As of Saturday morning, a total of 83 municipalities and cities were under a state of calamity based on NDRRMC’s tally. Kristine left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday but may reenter the weather monitoring zone on Sunday (Oct. 27) or Monday (Oct. 28).
The weather bureau said a new tropical storm is expected to enter tonight or tomorrow.
