Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 4) — The Department of Health turned down on Saturday a construction firm’s offer to allow the use of partially unpaid barangay health stations it had built for possible use by COVID-19 patients.
Health officials said the structures made by the JBros Construction Corporation are too small to properly qualify as COVID-19 facilities.
“Ang mga barangay health stations na ito ay may sukat na anim hanggang walong metro at hindi nakakapag-accommodate ng mga maraming tao,” said health spokesperson Ma. Rosario Vergeire.
[Translation: These barangay health stations measure from six up to eight meters and cannot accommodate many people.]
JBros earlier proposed the use of 570 barangay health stations it was commissioned to build in 2016. The construction firm was not paid the full cost of the project because of alleged anomalies.
