Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 28)— Senate President Tito Sotto on Tuesday bared a list of personalities, including past and present officials, who will be part of the initial senatorial slate of his 2022 tandem with Senator Ping Lacson.
They are:
— Former Vice President Jejomar Binay
— Former Senator JV Ejercito
— Sorsogon Governor Chiz Escudero
— DICT Secretary Gringo Honasan
— House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda
— Former Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol
— Senator Joel Villanueva
— Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri
Sotto added there are also “ongoing final talks” with broadcaster Raffy Tulfo and three other personalities whom he did not name.
Meanwhile, some names who were part of the initial lineup in July were not included in the updated list. These are Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, Senator Richard Gordon, former Comelec Commissioner Goyo Larrazabal, and Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez.
Sotto first revealed in an interview with CNN Philippines that he would be running for vice president next year alongside Lacson. Asked about what the tandem could offer, the Senate President cited their track record in government service — a combined 83 years of experience.
Binay and Ejercito earlier confirmed their bids for a political comeback in 2022, while Sotto had also said that Legarda and Escudero will attempt a return to the upper chamber next year.
