
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 17) — The Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles will start their bid for a fourth consecutive men’s seniors basketball title against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in the UAAP.
The meeting between the Blue Eagles and Fighting Maroons headlines the Season 84 opening day matches on March 26 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. The clash is scheduled at 4 p.m.
Ateneo will be bannered by Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player Angelo Kouame, SJ Belangel, Gian Mamuyac, Tyler Tio, and Raffy Verano with multi-titled mentor Tab Baldwin calling the shots for the early title favorites.
Meanwhile, the retooled UP squad will be carried by Ricci Rivero, Carl Tamayo, Noah Webb, RC Calimag, Terrence Fortea, Bismarck Lina, Joel Cagulangan, Gerry Abadiano, transferees CJ Cansino and Malick Diouf.
A new era dawns as the Fighting Maroons tapped a new head coach in Goldwyn Monteverde.
The Far Eastern University Tamaraws and the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers raise the curtains on opening day at 10 a.m.
It will be followed by a matchup between the Adamson University Soaring Falcons and the National University Bulldogs.
The De La Salle University Green Archers and the University of the East Red Warriors wrap up the hardcourt hostilities at 7 p.m.
The games will be held behind closed doors with teams coming into the venue from their in-campus bubbles to comply with the health and safety protocols guidelines approved by the UAAP and concerned government agencies.
