Metro Manila, Philippines – DreamWorks Animation’s Filipino culture-inspired film “Forgotten Island: drew strong search interest in the Philippines during its premiere week, according to Google Trends data.
The tech giant said searches for “Forgotten Island” reached a Google Trends interest score of 100 on Sept. 23 and surpassed 90 at a number of other points during the past week.
A score of 100 on Google Trends represents the peak popularity of a search term within the selected location and time period. It does not mean the term accounted for all Google searches.
The film features Filipino and Filipino-American stars Liza Soberano and H.E.R. and incorporates creatures and elements drawn from Philippine mythology and folklore.
Google said interest in the movie was also accompanied by searches related to the mythology behind the story, including creatures such as the “manananggal,” “tiyanak,” “kapre,” and “batibat.”
The company encouraged viewers interested in the film’s cultural references to use specific search terms to explore the origins of the creatures, as well as Philippine animist traditions, local customs and other folklore.
