Amaya Cojuangco nabs silver in Asian Games archery

Metro Manila, Philippines – Amaya Cojuangco has added another medal for the Philippines in the 20th Asian Games, bagging silver in the women’s compound individual event on Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square in Japan.

The 40-year-old Cojuangco fell short against Indonesia’s Nurisa Dian Ashrifah in a close battle for the gold, 139-137.

Cojuangco’s silver ended the country’s 12-year medal drought in the Asian Games. The Philippines’ last medal came from Paul Dela Cruz, who won bronze in the men’s individual compound event at the 2014 edition in Incheon, South Korea.

The Philippines medal haul now stands at 19, currently occupying the 17th spot in the quadrennial meet.
