Women’s kata team bags third bronze for PH in 20th Asian Games

Metro Manila, Philippines — The women’s kata team nabbed the country’s third medal after defeating Thailand in the bronze medal bout in the 20th Asian Games on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Toyohashi Gymnasium in Japan.

The trio of Samantha Veguillas, Ysabielle Arrogante and Rebecca Torres fell to Iran, 5-0, in the semifinals but recovered to dispatch the Thai team, 4-1, to earn a spot at the podium.

The Philippines improved to the 20th rank in the medal tally with three bronze medals after the women’s soft tennis team and mixed martial artist Carlos Alvarez earned the first two medals on Sept 21.
