Metro Manila, Philippines – Filipino Olympian Ernest John ‘EJ’ Obiena captured the gold medal at the 1st International Pole Vault Meeting in Halberstadt, Germany, on Friday, July 31.
Obiena topped the competition after clearing 5.76 meters on his first attempt, the highest mark in the event.
Qatar’s Seifeldin Abdelsalam finished second with a clearance of 5.66m, while American Cole Walsh claimed the bronze medal after clearing 5.56m.
Obiena’s personal best remains unbeaten at 6.00m.
