Metro Manila, Philippines – Alex Eala, Carlos Yulo, EJ Obiena are bannering the 464 athletes participating who will represent the Philippines at the 20th Asian Games in Japan this month.

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) submitted the full roster of athletes on Monday, Sept. 7.

Eala, currently ranked 18th in the world, is coming off a third round exit in the U.S. Open. She previously bagged two bronze medals in the women’s singles and doubles at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China three years ago.

Yulo, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, will be aiming to win his first Asian Games gold after ruling the men’s floor exercise at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships last June in Zunyi, China.

Pole vaulter EJ Obiena will be defending his title as he tries to reassert his dominance in the continent.The 30-year-old has been on an impressive run in his European swing, bagging gold medals one after another.

All eyes will also be on Gilas, composed of PBA players, as it eyes for a championship repeat in the men’s basketball after winning the country’s first Asian Games gold in over six decades.

Olympic medalists Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, and Aira Villegas will be leading the boxing team that will be without Eumir Marcial due to scheduling conflict.

Swimmer Kayla Sanchez, the most bemedalled Filipino athlete at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand, will be plunging into action in the quadrennial meet for the second straight time.

Annie Ramirez and Daniel Caluag also back to reaffirm their status as Asia’s best in women’s jiu-jitsu and BMX racing, respectively.

The 20th Asian Games will run from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4.
