Metro Manila, Philippines – It’s a double celebration for Barangay Ginebra as RJ Abarrientos and Justin Brownlee took home the top individual honors in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup.
Abarrientos captured his first Best Player of the Conference (BPC) award on Wednesday, June 10 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
The 26-year-old received the honor before the tip-off of Game 4 of the finals between Ginebra and the TNT Tropang 5G.
Interestingly, RJ’s uncle, PBA legend Johnny Abarrientos, won two BPC awards both in the Commissioner’s Cup in 1996 and 1997.
Abarrientos garnered a total of 1,147 points from stats, media and players votes. NLEX’s Robert Bolick and San Miguel’s June Mar Fajardo finished in second and third place with 804 points and 573 points, respectively.
Abarrientos was the clear favorite to win the award after Ginebra reached the finals.
Meanwhile, Brownlee – as expected – claimed his third Best Import award in the Commissioner’s Cup and fourth overall.
The 38-year-old was the runaway winner after accumulating 1,264 points.
Rain or Shine’s Jaylen Johnson and TNT’s Chris McCullough followed with 888 points and 690 points, respectively.
The Best Player of the Conference and Best Import awards were determined from 45% (statistical points), 30% (media votes), and 25% (players votes).
