UAAP: La Salle sweeps NU in Game 1, moves closer to reclaiming women’s volleyball title

Metro Manila, Philippines – The De La Salle University Lady Spikers inched closer to capturing the UAAP women’s volleyball title after a dominant straight-set victory over the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs, 25-23, 25-18, 25-18, in Game 1 of the Season 88 finals on Wednesday, May 6, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Not even a two-week stepladder break could stop the Lady Spikers from flexing their might against the Lady Bulldogs.

With the triumph, La Salle is on the cusp of not only reclaiming the crown but also achieving a rare season sweep.

The Lady Spikers ended the first set with a huge 11-4 run, which gave the Taft-based squad the confidence boost it needed to dictate the tempo and eventually seal the win.

Angel Canino powered La Salle with 17 points, while team captain Shevana Laput and Shane Reterta contributed 11 points apiece for the Lady Spikers.

Arah Panique had a game-high 18 markers for NU.

La Salle can close the best-of-three series and claim its 13th women’s volleyball championship on Saturday, May 9, at the same venue.
