Vatican City – Pope Francis remained stable through the day on Sunday and no longer required the use of mechanical ventilation to breathe, the Vatican said, in a sign of progress as the 88-year-old pontiff battles double pneumonia.
Francis has been in Rome’s Gemelli hospital for more than two weeks. He was admitted on February 14 with a severe respiratory infection that triggered other complications. The clinical conditions of the Holy Father have remained stable throughout the day,” said the latest detailed update about the pontiff’s condition on Sunday. The pope, it said, no longer needed the use of what the Vatican has called “non-invasive mechanical ventilation” but was continuing to receive oxygen via a small hose under his nose. The statement said the pope had not had a fever on Sunday. It said doctors were keeping his prognosis as “guarded” due to “the complexity of the clinical picture”, meaning the pope is not out of danger.Francis suffered a constriction of his respiratory airways on Friday, akin to an asthma attack, which required him to be aspirated and placed temporarily on ventilation. The Vatican said on Saturday that the pontiff’s condition had stabilised.Francis, who is spending his 17th night in hospital, met earlier on Sunday with two Vatican officials and offered thanks to well-wishers for their prayers and support in a written message.I would like to thank you for the prayers,” Francis said in a note released by the Vatican in place of his usual Sunday prayer with pilgrims, which the pope was not able to lead for the third week running.I feel all your affection and closeness and … I feel as if I am ‘carried’ and supported by all God’s people,” the message said.Francis also met at the hospital on Sunday with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s number-two official, and Parolin’s deputy, said Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni, without giving further details about the meeting. The pope, who is known to work himself to exhaustion, has continued leading the Vatican during his hospital stay and last met Parolin and the deputy at the Gemelli on February 24.
Pilgrims hope for Pope’s recovery
A Vatican official, who did not wish to be named because he was not authorised to discuss the pope’s health, said earlier on Sunday that Francis was eating normally and moving about his hospital room as he continued his treatment.Francis has experienced several bouts of ill health over the last two years and is prone to lung infections because he had pleurisy as a young adult and had part of one lung removed.Double pneumonia is a serious infection of both lungs that can inflame and scar them, making it difficult to breathe. The pope has not been seen in public since entering hospital, his longest absence from view since his papacy started in March 2013, and his doctors have not said how long his treatment might last.In St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican on Sunday, pilgrims were disappointed they could not see Francis deliver his usual weekly prayers but also expressed hopes for his recovery. We still feel him here,” said Annalisa Giona, an Italian. “He’s in our thoughts, in our prayers, in our souls, he’s here.Marzena Pilat, from Poland, said she expected to see Francis back at the Vatican soon. We’re very sorry that he is not here, that we cannot see him, but we are very happy that we can show that we stand with him,” she said.

My husband tells me I have this tic. He notices it when I’m upset but don’t want to say anything. I know exactly what he means. I press the tip of my tongue against my left incisor, as if to barricade the words inside. Once, I pressed so hard my tongue bled.
It was March. I remember because a former colleague had made a joke. “Why don’t we have Men’s Month? Don’t we deserve recognition, too?” Normally, I would have let his ignorance slide, but this time, I couldn’t help myself.
“Because it’s men’s month every month,” I replied.
His head snapped toward me, his expression a challenge. “Oh, we have a feminist here.”
I wanted to say so much more. That the absence of a designated men’ s month is precisely the point. That power is still imbalanced. That gender-based violence, workplace discrimination, and societal expectations continue to weigh heavier on women. That he can walk the streets without wondering if his outfit invites danger. That his ambition is called “drive,” while mine is called “aggression.” That if he becomes a father, no one will ask him, “Who’s taking care of the baby while you’re at work?”
But I swallowed it all because I didn’t want to be that girl—the difficult one. The one who “can’t take a joke.”
Later that day, as I struggled to open a door while carrying too much, he stepped in to help. “Not such a feminist now, huh?” he quipped.
Years later, I still think about that moment. I still have imaginary shower debates about what I should have said. (Yes, in some versions, I kick him in the balls.) But mostly, I think about the many times women stay silent because silence is the safer choice. Because despite the world’ s assurances, we are not always safe.
In early February, over a hundred women were raped and burned alive during a jailbreak in Congolese Goma. The escaped male prisoners’ first thought was not freedom, but violence—violence against women.
So yes, March is Women’s Month because the fight is far from over.
For this issue of PULSE, we not only celebrate Women’s Month but also amplify the voices demanding change. We remember the trailblazers who fought for our rights, the ones who shattered glass ceilings, and the countless women who continue to push forward despite the odds. We tell the stories that matter, the ones that inspire and ignite action. And when the world feels heavy, we lift each other up, we press play on our power anthems, and we march on.
Our March cover, Ann-Sophie, is a testament to strength and self-determination. She reclaims her narrative, turning her womanhood into a source of power rather than a limitation. Because feminism has never been about competition; it’s about equity. It’s about breaking down barriers so that women no longer have to ask for what should already be theirs: respect, opportunity, and autonomy.
This Women’s Month, may you speak without hesitation, take up space without apology, and fight without fear. May we be the ones who refuse to shrink, who challenge the status quo, who demand better—not just for ourselves, but for the generations to come. Because silence has never saved us, but our voices just might.

California, US – “A Real Pain” star Kieran Culkin won best supporting actor at the Academy Awards on Sunday where “Anora,” “The Brutalist” and “Conclave” were competing for the coveted best picture trophy.
Culkin, who started acting as a child, was honored for playing one of two cousins who travel to Poland to study their family’s history.I have no idea how I got here,” Culkin said on stage at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. “I’ve been acting all my life. I never felt like this was my trajectory.Anora,” a story about a sex worker who gets a shot at a Cinderella story, landed the award for original screenplay. The adapted screenplay award was given to “Conclave,” a movie that imagines the secret proceedings to select a new pope. Both are considered candidates to win the top honor of the night, the best picture statuette. The prize for best animated feature went to independent film “Flow,” the first movie from Latvia to win an Oscar.Nominees Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo opened the show with a “Wizard of Oz”-themed medley including the showstopping hit “Defying Gravity” from their film “Wicked.Grande, Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez and other stars wore shiny and sculptural gowns. Timothee Chalamet chose a canary yellow tuxedo, prompting a jab from host Conan O’Brien. You will not get hit on your bike tonight,” O’Brien said.O’Brien also threatened any winners who spoke too long that he would show their old headshots or cut to a shot of actor John Lithgow “looking slightly disappointed. This year’s Oscars race has featured twists and turns, and no movie has dominated the precursor film awards.Any of three films could score best picture, according to Oscars pundits. They are “Anora,” “Conclave” and “The Brutalist” about a Jewish immigrant and architect chasing the American dream.Others in the best picture field include blockbuster musical “Wicked,” a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz,” and “A Complete Unknown,” the Bob Dylan biopic starring Chalamet.Netflix NFLX.O musical “Emilia Perez” headed into the ceremony with the most nominations. But its chances of victory dwindled when offensive social media posts surfaced from star Karla Sofia Gascon. The actress, the first openly transgender person nominated for an acting Oscar, disappeared from the awards circuit but attended Sunday’s ceremony.Winners of the gold Oscar statuettes are chosen by the roughly 11,000 actors, producers, directors and film craftspeople who make up the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.Best actor could go to either Chalamet or “The Brutalist” star Adrien Brody, according to awards experts.Brody became the youngest best actor winner when he landed the prize at age 29 for “The Pianist” in 2002. Chalamet is nine months younger than Brody was at the time.Best actress is widely expected to go to Moore for “The Substance,” though one pundit said the category could produce an upset win for Brazil’s Fernanda Torres of “I’m Still Here.” The academy has increased its international membership, which could favor Torres, said Ian Sandwell, movies editor at Digital Spy.She could well be a surprise and the only one to take it away from Demi on the night,” Sandwell said.

Magsuot rin ng maluwag at magaan na damit,” Health spokesperson Asec. Albert Domingo said.
[Translation: The public is advised to regularly check updates from PAGASA and take precautionary steps to avoid these diseases including drinking lots of water; refraining from consuming iced tea, soda, and coffee, or any drink with alcohol; limit outdoor time between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and use sun protection such as caps, umbrellas, and sunblock. Also wear loose and light clothes.]

London, England – Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Sunday he believed he could salvage his relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump after their explosive meeting in the Oval Office, but that talks needed to continue behind closed doors.
Zelenskiy reiterated that Ukraine would not concede any territory to Russia as part of a peace deal. He said he was still willing to sign a minerals deal with the U.S. and described a discussion on Sunday with European leaders to send a draft peace plan to the U.S. as a key development. In an extraordinary meeting that was broadcast live on Friday, Trump accused Zelenskiy of being ungrateful for U.S. aid, of showing disrespect to his country and of risking World War Three, casting into doubt Washington’s ongoing support for Ukraine in its three-year-long war with Russia.Zelenskiy spoke to reporters at a London airport after a summit with European leaders in London on Sunday. While he seemed in good spirits and thanked European countries for their support, the Ukrainian leader was careful to balance his dismay with the events of Friday’s Oval Office meeting with a clear desire to keep talking with Washington.Zelenskiy said he did not think the U.S. would stop its assistance to Ukraine, because as “leaders of the civilized world” they would not want to help Russian President Vladimir Putin. But he said he remained prepared for any outcome. As regards salvaging the relationship, I think our relationship will continue,” Zelenskiy told reporters via a translator after the London summit. But he added: “I do not think it’s right when such discussions are totally open. … The format of what happened, I don’t think it brought something positive or additional to us as partners.A visibly shaken Zelenskiy arrived in London on Saturday where he was met with a warm embrace from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and by cheering supporters around Downing Street. At the summit on Sunday Starmer said European leaders had agreed to draw up a Ukraine peace plan to take to the U.S., in the hope that Washington would offer the security guarantees Kyiv says are vital to deter Russia.Zelenskiy said Ukraine relied on the U.S. as its top military backer and that stopping the supply of weapons would only help Putin. “The U.S. are … leaders of the civilized world, and they will not help Putin,” he said.An influential Russian parliamentarian, Konstantin Kosachev, on Sunday derided the hopes for Europe’s stepping up to forge a peace plan. “And if Ukraine should count on something, it can only be on progress (if there is any to come) in Russian-American relations,” he wrote on Telegram.
Ready to sign minerals deal
The abrupt ending to Zelenskiy’s Washington trip meant that the two countries failed to sign a much-vaunted minerals deal that Kyiv hoped would spur Trump to back Ukraine’s war effort, but Zelenskiy said Ukraine was still willing to sign it.We agreed upon signing it; and we were ready to sign it. And honestly I believe the United States would be ready as well,” he said.Trump had sought to cast the minerals deal as a way for Ukraine, which is home to a trove of lithium deposits and rare earth minerals, to repay the U.S. for its billions of dollars in aid. While Zelenskiy sought to avoid any further antagonism of the U.S., saying he did not want to go over what had happened, he was more forceful on any future ceasefire deal, saying Ukraine would not hand sovereignty of occupied Ukrainian land to Russia.Everyone needs to understand that Ukraine will never recognise whatever is occupied by Russia as Russian territories,” he said.We hope that these security guarantees will make it 100% impossible to give Russia the opportunity to come with another aggression”.Zelenskiy said there had been contact between Kyiv and Washington since Friday’s bust-up, although not at his level, and asked if he had considered resigning, he showed no sign of wavering. As regards resignation, if I’m to be changed … to change me it will not be easy because it is not enough to simply hold elections. You would need to prevent me from participating in the elections and it will be a bit more difficult. Some Republican leaders had suggested that Zelenskiy needed to resign after Friday’s meeting with Trump.Zelenskiy repeated again, however, that if Ukraine was granted NATO membership, he would have fulfilled his mission.
