Metro Manila, Philippines — Ischaemic heart diseases were the leading cause of death in the Philippines during the first two months of 2026, accounting for more than a quarter of all recorded deaths nationwide, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The PSA recorded 14,921 deaths due to ischaemic heart diseases from January to February, equivalent to 26.6% of the total deaths recorded during the period.
Pneumonia was the second-leading cause of death, with 5,222 cases, or 9.3% of the total, while cerebrovascular diseases ranked third, with 4,420 deaths, or 7.9%.
Neoplasms, which include cancers and other abnormal tissue growths, placed fourth, with 4,293 deaths, accounting for 7.7% of the total.
Meanwhile, diabetes mellitus rounded out the top five causes of death, with 2,795 recorded deaths, or 5%.
The PSA’s figures cover deaths that occurred in the Philippines from January to February 2026, based on data processed as of June 30, 2026.
The agency stressed that the figures are provisional and may still change as additional registrations are processed.
The final report is expected to be released in January 2028.
