La Salle’s Kevin Quiambao is first local player to win UAAP MVP in 8 years

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 29) — Kevin Quiambao of the De La Salle University is set to be crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball.

The awarding will take place on Dec. 3 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, before Game 2 of the finals.

The 22-year-old cager was the runaway MVP leader with 97 statistical points, besting University of the East’s Rey Remogat and La Salle’s Evan Nelle, who tallied 85.93 and 75.54 statistical points, respectively.

Rounding up the top five are University of the Philippines’ Malick Diouf with 74.77 statistical points and LJay Gonzales of Far Eastern University with 66.86 statistical points.

Quiambao became the first local player to claim the MVP honor since Kiefer Ravena won back-to-back in 2014 and 2015.

The do-it-all forward joins Jun Limpot, Mark Telan, Don Allado, and Ben Mbala in the list of La Salle UAAP MVP winners.

Quiambao had an impressive elimination round stint for the Green Archers, which was highlighted by two triple-double outings, averaging 16.7 points, 10.9 rebounds, six assists, and 1.9 steals.
