Gen Z, Millennials top part-timers in PHMarket research firm

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 2)— A market research study found that Generation Z (Gen Z) and younger Millennials are the top part-timers in the Philippines.

\”We see an increasing number of Filipinos, particularly the younger generation, seeking part-time employment as a means to bolster their income and attain financial stability,\” Jason Gaguan, chairman and CEO of Agile Data Solutions, said in a statement.

\”This trend is further driven by the prevailing economic challenges and inflation, which reached 6.1% in September,\” he added.

Market research firm Agile Data Solutions, Inc., conducted the study with 1,000 respondents from July to September. It said that 60% of Filipinos ages 18-60 have part-time work and most of it belonged to the younger generations of ages 18-26.

It said that the \”economic downturn\” has shifted the spending behavior, attitude, and actions of almost all of the Filipino part-timers.

The top part-time positions are in the outsourcing industry, with call center leading, followed by virtual assistant, service crew, IT, and sales.

The study also said that part-timers’ average earnings are more than P10,000 per month in leading areas such as Calabarzon, Metro Manila, and Central Luzon with 11%.

Part-time work preferences

Eight-three percent of the 18-25 years old cluster and 76% of the 41-60 years old group take part-time jobs for financial independence, the study said.

It also noted that flexibility and remote set-ups are priorities for 47% of the older generations and 25% of Gen Z.

\”This illustrates a willingness among Filipinos to exchange time for financial stability in their younger years. As individuals age, their focus tends to shift towards the importance of time and achieving a better work-life balance,\” Agile Data Solutions stated.

The respondents of the study said that virtual assistant, freelancing, and online tutoring are among the best part time jobs. Despite being at the top 5, call center and service crew are jobs that garnered negative feelings from the respondents.

\”About 78% of men and 76% of women with part-time jobs expressed a necessity to save their income. This trend is more noticeable among Generation Z (Gen Z) and Millennials, who are reportedly shying away from buying non-essential products,\” it added.

The study has also revealed that more men take multiple part-time jobs than women.
