“PhilHealth admits over 4M dead people still in database \n”

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 25) — More than four million dead people are still registered as members of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), the head of the agency said Wednesday.

PhilHealth President and CEO Emmanuel Ledesma, Jr. said that 92% of Filipinos are covered by the state health insurer, but he admitted that they are experiencing challenges in cleaning up their database.

“The thing with the Philhealth database is, my understanding is we have to clean it up because I think there are around 4-5 million people who have already passed away but hindi pa po natatanggal sa database (they have not been removed from the database),” Ledesma disclosed during the Senate Committee on Science and Technology’s probe on cyber security.

Ledesma said he already sought help from the Department of Information and Communications Technology to address the matter.

Authorities are investigating the hacking incident that possibly compromised the data of up to 20 million PhilHealth members.
