Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 21) — Taxi operators once again urged the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to increase the flagdown rate by ₱30 more amid the continuous increases in fuel prices.
“Ang meron kaming naka-file is a motion for reconsideration kasi nga ‘yung original na petition namin ay hindi naman gri-nant ng LTFRB,” Bong Suntay, president of Philippine National Taxi Operators Association, told CNN Philippines on Sunday.
[Translation: We filed a motion for reconsideration because LTFRB did not grant the original petition.]
Suntay said the current flagdown rate is ₱40, which was implemented starting 2017.
“Noong 2017, ang presyo ng gasolina was ₱38. Ang presyo ngayon ng gasolina ay ₱67,” he said.

He added that instead of granting the additional ₱30 flagdown rate, LTFRB granted a ₱5 fare increase in 2022.
“Nag grant sila ng additional ₱5 pero insulto lang ‘yun sa industriya namin,” Suntay said. “Baka sabihin nila di ba na grant na namin so hindi na lang namin in-avail.”
[Translation: They granted an additional ₱5, but this is just an insult to our industry. They might say they already granted a fare increase, so we just didn’t avail of it.
Starting Tuesday, oil companies will implement another price increase in fuel products. This will be the seventh consecutive week of fuel price hikes since July 17.
