Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 19) — A bystander and a suspect were killed, while three others were injured, in a firefight in Sta. Cruz, Manila Friday night between police officers and two motorcycle-riding individuals who were subjected to inspection, authorities reported.
The Manila Police District (MPD) on Saturday said the incident happened shortly before 10 p.m. after officers from the Tactical Motorcycle Rider Unit of the Meisic Police Station flagged down two armed individuals while conducting \”Oplan Sita.\”
According to the MPD, the suspects \”became unruly (and) uncooperative while alighting from their motorcycle during the verification.\”
It said the two \”indiscriminately\” fired at the officers, who then returned fire.
A bystander was hit by a stray bullet and was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival, police said. One of the suspects also died from gunshot wounds, while the other was injured.
