Mother of minor mistakenly killed by Navotas police to be repatriated – DMW

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 10) — The mother of the 17-year-old boy mistakenly killed by police in Navotas on Aug. 2 will be repatriated from Qatar, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced on Thursday.

DMW officer-in-charge and Undersecretary Bernard Olalia said Rodaliza Baltazar is now with the agency’s migrant workers office in Doha, waiting for her flight back home.

Olalia added that the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration will jointly provide ₱100,000 financial assistance and will shoulder funeral and burial expenses of her child.

Navotas Mayor John Rey Tiangco also vowed on Thursday to provide assistance to the bereaved family.

\”We at the city government extend our sincerest condolences to the family of the victim and vow to give them the assistance they need,\” Tiangco said.

\”We owe it to the victim and his family to give them the speedy justice they deserve,\” he added.

Jemboy Baltazar was shot and killed by cops while he and his friend were cleaning the boat that they use for work. Police admitted after the incident that they mistakenly identified Baltazar as a murder suspect.

On Wednesday, Navotas City police chief Col. Allan Umipig said six police personnel involved in the fatal shooting are now facing homicide complaints.

He added that police officers tagged in the killing have been relieved from their posts and are currently detained at the Navotas City Police Station.

Philippine National Police Internal Affairs Service Inspector General Alfegar Triambulo on Tuesday said he has directed the District Internal Affairs Service in the Northern Police District to investigate Baltazar’ s death.
