Exclusive: Ukrainian foreign minister hopes for PH support on proposed peace plan

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 10) — Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba hopes more countries will show support for Ukraine’s peace formula, which not only aims to end the Russian invasion, but also to become a basis in ending other potential military conflicts in other parts of the world.

In an exclusive interview with CNN Philippines on Tuesday, the foreign minister said Ukraine will welcome support for the peace plan from ASEAN countries like the Philippines.

\”We will welcome Philippines’ engagement with peace formula,\” Kuleba said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously said the 10-point formula is so far the only diplomatic way to achieve peace following Russia’s aggression.

Dozens of countries took part in a conference hosted by Saudi Arabia on Aug. 4 aiming to gather support for the Ukrainian peace initiative and demand that Russia withdraw its troops from Ukraine.

“We welcome different engagement with ASEAN countries, especially with the peace formula with Ukraine. We are ready to enter as many doors as ASEAN countries will be willing to us,” Kuleba added.

The top Ukrainian diplomat also said many countries have expressed their support in various forms – from United Nations General Assembly resolutions, to providing arms and imposing economic sanctions.

\”When we win the war, I will publicly and openly say to every country in the world thank you for your help. It’s enough to win but until then it’s not enough and we have to do more and this is the logic of a country fighting for existence and territorial integrity,\” Kuleba said.

\”Unfortunately, as of now we don’t see any indicators that Russia is seeking peace and this missile attack is another evidence of that because you don’t behave like this when you seek peace,\” he added.

Over 500 days since the war broke out in Ukraine, Kuleba said they continue to make progress in taking back their territory.

But the scars from the war will be forever etched in their memories.

\”Every day our soldiers move forward, sometimes one, two kilometers per day, it can be 500 meters the other day. But we keep moving forward,\” Kuleba said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his troops into Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said since the invasion, over 8 million people fled Ukraine and 5.3 million have been displaced.
