Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 29) — Marikina River was placed under second alarm Saturday night after its water level breached 16 meters due to continuous rains.
Nearby residents were asked to evacuate as the Marikina Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that the water level went up to 16.5 meters as of 8:20 p.m.
Once the water level goes beyond 18 meters, third alarm will be raised – meaning forced evacuation.
Tropical Storm Falcon has enhanced the southwest monsoon or habagat, bringing rains over parts of Luzon and the Visayas, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration. It is forecast to intensify into a typhoon Sunday afternoon or evening.
Falcon entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility a day after Super Typhoon Egay left the country’s weather monitoring area.
