DepEd completes K-10 review, to launch new curriculum in ‘a few weeks’

Classes for school year 2019-2020 will begin Monday, June 3, and is expected to end on April 3, 2020.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 11) — The Department of Education has completed its review of the Kinder to Grade 10 (K-10) curriculum, with the updated version out in “a few weeks,” an official said.

“We reviewed ‘yung K-10 curriculum, and we will be launching it in a few weeks but for implementation school year 2024-2025,” DepEd Usec. Michael Wesley Poa said during a Palace briefing on Tuesday.

He said the feedback received by the department was that the current curriculum is “highly congested,” making it “very hard” for young students to master the subjects.

The revised curriculum, meanwhile, targets to “decongest” the educational process to improve the country’s basic quality education, the official said.

“We will allot more time for the fundamentals, such as math, science, English, reading, and values formation subjects,” he said.

The DepEd opened the draft curriculum for public scrutiny in May and it has received “a lot of comments from experts, members of the academe, and the general public,” Poa said.
