BI nabs US fugitive who hid in PH for 8 years

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 13) — An American fugitive, who has been hiding in the Philippines since 2014, was arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Ermita, Manila on Friday.

The United States citizen, identified as Jason Clint Reed, 43, has had an arrest warrant issued against him by a district court in Jefferson County, Texas since 2015.

According to a BI report, Reed is an undocumented alien as his passport was already revoked by the US Department of State.

\”He had also been overstaying in the country for almost eight years as BI records show that he last arrived in Manila on Nov. 27, 2014 and never left or bothered to extend his stay since then,\” BI fugitive search unit (FSU) acting chief Rendell Ryan Sy said.

Reed will be deported for overstaying and for being an undocumented alien, he added.

The fugitive was charged in Texas for improper photo and visual recording. The Texas penal code defines the charge as \”invasive visual recording as being committed if one photographs, records or broadcasts a person’s intimate areas in a private space, such as a bathroom or a changing room, without the victim’s consent.\”

If convicted, Reed may be sentenced to a jail term of between six months and two years and fined up to $10,000.
