
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 5) — Nueva Vizcaya governor and former congressman Carlos Padilla died on Friday, his family confirmed.
He was 78.
According to provincial health officer Dr. Anthony Cortez, Padilla died at around 9:20 a.m. due to acute myocardial infarction, also known as a heart attack.
Padilla assumed the gubernatorial post in 2016 and was reelected in 2019 and 2022.
Before that, he served as representative of the lone district of Nueva Vizcaya in the House of Representatives for nearly three decades.
While in Congress, he became House Deputy Speaker and House Minority Leader.
Padilla also first served as mayor of Dupax del Norte.
Shortly after receiving the news of his death, the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) issued a resolution paying tribute to Padilla, describing him as a \”paragon of public service.\”
\”The LPP [shares] the loss of the people of Nueva Vizcaya who lost an ally and committed leader and servant,\” the organization said.
