With no crescent moon sighting, Eid’l Fitr will take place April 22

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 21) — The Bangsamoro Darul Ifta declared late Thursday night that Eid’ Fitr or the Feast of Breaking the Fast for Islam believers will be held on Saturday.

The announcement came after the Muslim advisory council conducted moon sightings in various parts of the country and confirmed that the crescent moon was not sighted for Friday evening.

The council said it dispatched moon sighting teams in strategic locations, equipped with technical knowledge and equipment.

The moon crescent sighting is crucial in determining the Islamic event as it marks the start of the new lunar month of Shawwal or the tenth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

Eid’l Fitr signifies the end of Ramadan or the month-long fasting for Islamic believers, which began on March 23.
