Aklan logs first ASF case

Kalibo, Aklan (April 14, 2023) — The province of Aklan has detected its first case of African Swine Fever (ASF), according to its governor.

In a press statement on Thursday, Governor Jose Enrique Miraflores said the Aklan Provincial Veterinarian Office will be tasked to monitor the affected areas and its neighboring barangays.
A strict border will also be imposed in the exit areas for 24 hours following the confirmation, he added.
Two days ago, Balete Mayor Dexter Calizo released Executive Order No. 06 which temporarily suspends entry of live hogs and pork products in and out of their locality due to a suspected ASF case.
Reports that several hogs died in Balete town prompted the authorities to suspect ASF as the cause.
The governor also called for a meeting of the local chief executives of the 17 towns in Aklan to discuss the preventive measures that they will have to implement as soon as possible.
In an interview on Friday, Malay Mayor Frolibar Bautista said he will follow the instructions of the Aklan Provincial Government and will rely on the result of the meeting with the executives to protect Boracay Island from the ASF.

Kung ano man ang magiging resulta ng meeting with the Governor and the local execs, we will follow [Translation: Whatever the outcome of the meeting with the Governor and the local execs, we will follow],” Bautista said.
