DOTr: Volume of holiday break travel to peak on Wednesday, Thursday

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 3) — Passenger volume for the Lenten holiday break is expected to peak on Wednesday, the last working day of the week, and Thursday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Monday.

“We are on heightened alert since the weekend and we are expecting a gradual increase in the number of passengers,” Joni Gesmundo, executive assistant to the transportation secretary, told CNN Philippines’ The Source.

Authorities said millions are expected to pass through airports, sea ports, and bus terminals either for a vacation or to go back to their provinces for the Holy Week break.

Gesmundo said foot traffic has increased in airport terminals, specifically at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The situation in ports and bus terminals is still manageable, but more passengers are expected in the coming days, he added.

He said airport and bus terminal officials expect the number to exceed pre-pandemic levels.
