PNP: Mall hostage-taker has license to work as security guard

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 3) — The police chief in charge of accreditation for guards under security agencies clarified on Tuesday that Alchie Paray, the hostage-taker in the San Juan mall, has an active license to work as a security guard.

Philippine National Police’s Supervisory Office on Security and Investigation Agencies (SOSIA) Chief PBGen Michael John Dubria issued the clarification after San Juan City Police Chief Col. Jaime Santos said they received information from SOSIA that Paray has no record of being accredited by the PNP.

“His true name is said to be Alchie Paray Y Pedraza — a holder of a license to exercise security profession set to expire on April 2021,” Dubria said in a text message.

Paray opened fire inside V-Mall in Greenhills around 10 a.m. Monday, injuring a security guard. The held around 60 people hostage inside the mall. The 10-hour standoff ended with the hostages released unharmed following the apology and resignation of Paray’s bosses.
