(CNN Philippines, May 5) — Filipino boxer Jerwin Ancajas needed to bounce back from a draw in his last bout, and he got the result he wanted.
Ancajas successfully defended his IBF super flyweight crown after defeating Japanese Ryuichi Funai via technical knockout Sunday in Stockholm, California.
With a busted face and seeing Ancajas to be the aggressor, the referee — upon the advice of the ringside physician — decided to stop the fight at the start of the seventh round.
Ancajas landed 163 of 389 power punches thrown, while Funai only connected 48 of 199 power punches.
Ancajas improved his professional record to 31 wins, one loss and two draws.
Meanwhile, Funai suffered his eighth loss in 39 fights.
