The 2015 reboot is the highest earning film in Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park franchise, as well as the third-highest grossing film in history.
Only James Cameron’s Titanic and Avatar have outperformed the film.
Lead stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will return for the sequel, with Spielberg slated as executive producer and Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow set to pen the script.
An official title for the sequel and the director have yet to be announced.
Jurassic World added to an amazing year for Universal Pictures, which became the fastest studio to hit $2 billion at the box office in a calendar year, as of last month.
This comes after the success of the studio’s Fifty Shades of Grey, Furious 7, and Pitch Perfect 2.
Upcoming Universal movies this year include M. Night Shyamalan’s The Visit, Everest, Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs, and Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak.
