
Iloilo City (CNN Philippines) — Sixteen student-athletes from public schools here were recognized and awarded cash incentives by the city government after they won medals in the Palarong Pambansa 2015 in Tagum, Davao City.
These student athletes were presented to the media Tuesday (June 30) at the Iloilo City Hall. Vice Mayor and Iloilo City Sports Council Chairman Jose Espinosa III led the awarding ceremony.
Gold medals winners were given P1, 500 cash incentive, P1, 000 for silver medallists, and P500 for bronze.
The Palaro winners are: Athletics – Erwin Carter (Iloilo City NHS): gold in 4 x 100 meter run and silver in 100 meter run; and Rowel Christian Derecho: gold in 4 x 100 meter run and silver in 100meter run;
Arnis (Elementary Boys – 2nd place overall) – Nathaniel Balajadia of G. Lopez Jaena ES: gold in Solo Baston, gold in Espada y Daga and silver in Doble Baston; Niel Ace Lozada of Bakhaw ES: silver in Doble Baston (team event);
Swimming (Elementary Boys) – Kian Montalban of WVSU: bronze in 4 x100 meter free relay; Eunincie Zyrhod Mandap of Arevalo ES: bronze in 4 x 100 meter free relay;
Wushu (Secondary Boys and Girls – champion overall) – Gayle Rose Baxinela of Jalandoni Memorial NHS: gold in 48 kg.; Pons Henry Senfres of JNHS: gold in 48 kg.; John Michael Roa of JNHS: silver in 48 kg.; Shun Kervin Barreta of JNHS: gold in 45 kg.
Special Athletes – Alden Jimenez of SPED-ISEC: gold in 100 meter run, gold in 4 x 100 meter relay, silver in 200 meter run, and silver in shotput; Mack Gayver Saul of SPED-ISEC: gold in 4 x 100 meter relay; Emilda Soriano of SPED-ISEC: gold in 100 meter run, silver in 200 meter run,and silver in 4 x 100 meter relay;
Judy Ann Tampus of SPED-ISEC: silver in 100 meter run and silver in 4 x 100 meter relay; Cherry Rose Lopez of SPED-ISEC: silver in 4 x 100 meter run; and Larry Stuart Fanega of SPED- ISEC: bronze in 500 meter free style and bronze in 50 meter back stroke.
The athlete honorees were accompanied by their coaches and chaperon – Zarah Capinig from Bakhaw ES (Arnis coach); Enriquito Pesado and Edelynne Tupaz of Jalandoni Memorial NHS (Wushu coaches) with chaperon Rosalinda Lacupa from Jalandoni Memorial NHS; Mary Laverne Iquiña from SPED-ISEC (Special Athletes coach); Mary Gen Mahinay from SPED-ISEC (Special Athletes coach); and Edvin Cabrera from SPED-ISEC (Special Athletes).
