Mayweather-Pacquiao in Manila? MVP talks with Pacman of possibility

Manny V. Pangilinan talked to Manny Pacquiao about the possibility of bringing a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight in Manila.

(CNN Philippines) — Mayweather-Pacquiao in Manila?

Manny V. Pangilinan posted on his Twitter account Friday that he had a brief discussion with Manny Pacquiao about basketball, running, and the possibility of staging a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight in the Philippines.

After all the complications and issues that hurdled the May 2 (May 3 PHT) Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown, it would be difficult to bring a similar boxing spectacle in the country.

But if there’s someone who can do it, it’s Pangilinan.

The business mogul has staged grand sporting events in Manila in the past that has featured some of the top-notch athletes in the world.

In 2011, his group brought over National Basketball Association (NBA) superstars like Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Kevin Durant, and Russell Westbrook to Manila for an exhibition game against the Philippine national team and select Philippine Basketball Association players.

Another batch of NBA players including James Harden, Kyle Lowry, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard, and Tyson Chandler flew here in 2014 to help Gilas Pilipinas train for the FIBA World Cup.

Pangilinan has a tremendous passion for sports and the expensive costs of bringing world-class sports personalities to the Philippines has never stopped him in the past.

But only time will tell if his idea of a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight in Manila will come to fruition.
