Marcos: P20/kilo of rice available soon in public markets
Metro Manila, Philippines - The P20 per kilo of rice he promised will soon be available in public markets, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced on Sunday, July 6.
To date, the P20 per kilo of rice is being sold in 94 designated government outlets. Indigent families, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries, senior citizens, persons with disability, solo parents, and minimum wage earners can avail the product.
“It is achievable, it is sustainable. Kaya abangan ninyo [Wait for it] in your nearest public market,” the president said in a vlog.
“Parami nang parami na ang ating mga location, at hindi lang po ito pop-up store na mawawala naman pagkatapos na masimulan. Tuloy-tuloy na po ito,” he said.
[Translation: Our locations are expanding, and it is not just in pop-up stores that tends to end. This will continue.]
Marcos said continuing the Benteng Bigas Meron Na program is possible as government agencies and local governments work together.
Lowering the price of a kilo of rice to P20 was among Marcos’ campaign promises.
