'Crising,' habagat leave dozen dead; agri, infra damage at P4 billion
Metro Manila, Philippines - Twelve people were killed in the aftermath of Severe Tropical Storm Crising and the enhanced southwest monsoon, while agriculture and infrastructure damage was pegged at P4 billion, according to official data released on Thursday, July 24.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council report listed the fatalities from:
+ Calabarzon - 3
+ Mimaropa - 1
+ Western Visayas - 2
+ Northern Mindanao - 3
+ Davao Region - 1
+ Caraga - 1
+ Metro Manila - 1
Eight people were hurt while eight others are missing.
Meanwhile, agriculture damage was estimated at P366.3 million and damage to the National Irrigation Administration infrastructure was at P281.6 million.
Data showed Mimaropa was the most hit region in terms of agriculture, with around 6,000 farmers and fisherfolk affected.
Infrastructure damage was pegged at P3.7 billion, mainly in Central Luzon.
Overall, over 765,800 families or 2.7 million people were affected across the country.
