Metro Manila, Philippines - President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the national kick-off in Bulacan of a volunteer program to prepare public schools ahead of the new academic year, and highlighted the administration's commitment to improving the quality of education and addressing teacher needs.

The ceremonies for Brigada Eskwela 2025 were held on Monday, June 9, at Tibagan Elementary School in San Miguel and Bahiran Elementary School in Malolos.

In a speech to educators, school officials, and community stakeholders at Tibagan, Marcos expressed gratitude to the new public teachers and noted efforts initiated by Education Secretary Sonny Angara to minimize their administrative responsibilities to focus more on their profession.

“Kasi naman naging teacher kayo para magturo, hindi naman para mag-bookkeeping.”

[Translation: You became teachers to teach, not to do bookkeeping.]

Marcos showcased the plan to integrate technology into schools, especially in remote areas, through initiatives like the use of Khan Academy learning platforms and Starlink satellite internet services. These tools provide uninterrupted access to digital learning resources.

“Gagawin natin sa mga iba’t ibang eskwelahan lalong-lalo na doon sa mga malalayo dahil may teknolohiya na,” he said

[Translation: We will implement it in other schools, especially in remote areas, now that the technology is available.]

Marcos reaffirmed the pledge to strengthen educator support through financial aid, retraining programs, and fewer bureaucratic duties..

“Para sa akin, kayo ‘yung mga talagang hero,” he said.

[Translation: For me, you are the true heroes.]

Brigada Eskwela, also known as the National Schools Maintenance Week, is an annual initiative that mobilizes communities to prepare public schools for the opening of classes. The theme this year is strengthening the foundational skills of learners and ensuring learning continuity amid evolving challenges in the education sector.
