Metro Manila, Philippines - Poll workers will get a P2,000 increase in their allowance, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) said on Friday, May 9.

The agency said the new honoraria for members of the electoral board are as follows:

+ chairperson, P12,000

+ poll clerk, P11,000

+ third member, P11,000

+ support staff, P6,000

In a press statement, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman appealed to the Commission on Elections to make sure the compensation will be released on time.

[Translation: We know that in safeguarding our votes, our teachers and poll workers will face fatigue, sleepless nights, and sacrifice. That’s why, when the president instructed us to increase their benefits, we did not hesitate.]

Over 758,000 workers will man election sites nationwide on Monday, May 12.
