Metro Manila, Philippines - The operations of broadsheet Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) and online news outlet Inquirer.net will be integrated beginning July.

PDI and its sister company Inquirer Interactive, which manages Inquirer.net, entered into a deal for the latter to assume newspaper publication effective July 1.

The integration, PDI said, is seen to improve its financial foundation and its ability to deliver news on both platforms.

“Following a thorough review of its challenges, the Board of Directors had determined that this shift is the best strategy,” PDI said in a statement on Friday, May 2.

With the integration, several members of the newspaper’s editorial team have been invited by Inquirer Interactive to hop on in managing the multimedia arm.

Affected employees, meanwhile, will receive their due separation benefits as committed by the board of directors, PDI said.

PDI has existed since December 1985, founded by publisher Eugenia Apóstol, columnist Max Solivén, with Betty Go-Belmonte.
