Meralco rates down in May

Metro Manila, Philippines - Power distributor Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) will reduce charges by P0.7499 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in May because of lower generation and transmission charges.

The power distributor said in a statement on Tuesday, May 13, that this will bring down the overall rate for a typical household rate to P12.2628/kWh.

Residential customers consuming 200 kWh may see a reduction of around P150 in their May billing statement.

The power distributor said the main reasons for lower generation charge, which covers more than half of the electricity bill, were lower charges from the spot market and independent power producers.
