Belmonte-Sotto tandem extends reign in QC

Metro Manila, Philippines - Re-electionists Mayor Joy Belmonte and Vice Mayor Gian Sotto extend their terms in Quezon City after a dominant win against rivals in the 2025 local polls.

The Belmonte-Sotto tandem was proclaimed Tuesday, May 13, after racking up the most votes in the city. Both are in their third and final term.

The Quezon City mayor is known for advocating progressive causes for women, LGBTQIA+ sectors, and environmental advocacy.

Belmonte and Sotto both emerged winners over three other independent candidates for mayor and vice mayor, respectively.

Belmonte is former Quezon City mayor and House Speaker Sonny Belmonte’s daughter.

Sonny Belmonte held the city’s mayoralty position for nine years from June 2001 to 2010.
