“Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA said.
Severe Tropical Storm Fung Wong is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility late Friday evening or early morning of Saturday, Nov. 8 and will be assigned the local name “Uwan.”
PAGASA forecasts the storm to rapidly intensify and reach super typhoon category by Saturday evening or Sunday morning.
In response, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has urged all local officials to complete preemptive or mandatory evacuations of high-risk communities by Sunday. The DILG said the directive came from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during Thursday’s situation briefing.
The department urged LGUs to act quickly and plan for worst-case scenarios.
“We cannot be complacent. The next 48 hours are crucial for preparedness. We urge everyone to stay informed, follow local advisories, and cooperate with authorities,” the DILG said.
LGUs were also reminded to stock sufficient supplies in evacuation centers, coordinate closely with Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils, and conduct timely public information campaigns, especially in areas prone to flooding, landslides, and storm surges.
The DILG also ordered the enforcement of a no-sailing policy and the suspension of tourism and outdoor activities in at-risk areas.
