PAGASA: Potential super typhoon seen this weekend
Metro Manila, Philippines - Another tropical cyclone is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday or Saturday and it may further intensify into a super typhoon over the weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
The state weather bureau said the tropical cyclone currently located in the south of Guam will be given the local name “Uwan” once inside PAR.
PAGASA said “Uwan” is likely to make landfall.
“The exact landfall location and time remains highly uncertain, considering that the forecast is more than five days ahead,” the agency said.
As of 10 a.m., the tropical depression is spotted 1,985 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao. It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph. It is moving westward at 20 kph.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Tino is bringing heavy rains and strong winds to Visayas, portions of Mindanao, and several areas in Southern Luzon. It has made landfall in Leyte, Cebu, Negros Occidental, and Guimaras.
