Metro Manila, Philippines - The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons sent the erstwhile unbeaten Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles crashing to earth with an 83-69 beatdown in the UAAP Season 88 men's basketball tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Francis Nnoruka and Rey Remogat led the attack for the Fighting Maroons with career-high 28 points and 20 points, respectively.

UP pulled away in the third period behind Harold Alarcon who poured 13 of his 17 points in the pivotal frame.

Shawn Tuano paced the Blue Eagles with 17 markers and three boards.

The Fighting Maroons improved to 3-2 in the team standings, while Ateneo is tied with National University at the top spot with a 4-1 win-loss card.

UP will next battle the Far Eastern University on Oct. 12 at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila.

Meanwhile, the Blue Eagles will hope to bounce back against the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers on Oct. 11 at their gym in Quezon City.
