Basilan town clash due to clan war - military
Metro Manila, Philippines - The clash in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan is a rido (clan war)-related conflict from nearby barangays, the military said on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
This clarification comes after the local government said the town is under siege by “lawless elements allegedly backed by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).”
As of 9:45 a.m., Tipo-Tipo Mayor Ingatun Istarul said negotiations between the groups are ongoing.
Authorities have yet to disclose the identities of groups involved.
In a statement, the Joint Task Group Basilan said the provincial government is coordinating with the MILF and the Basilan Council of Elders to reduce tension and restore normalcy in the area.
“We call on everyone to remain calm and continue supporting the peace process, recognizing that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding among all stakeholders,” task force commander MGen. Leonardo Peña said.
This is a developing story.
