Marcos meets with leaders of Cambodia, Thailand, Canada on ASEAN sidelines
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. held separate bilateral meetings with the leaders of Cambodia, Thailand and Canada on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits on Sunday, Oct. 26.
In his meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Marcos reaffirmed the Philippines’ support for the peaceful resolution of the Thai-Cambodian border conflict through dialogue and adherence to international law.
Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Marcos welcomed recent developments in the peace process, including the signing of the Terms of Reference of the ASEAN Observer Team.
Hun Manet, in turn, expressed Cambodia’s strong support for the Philippines’ upcoming ASEAN chairmanship in 2026.
Marcos also met with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, offering condolences on behalf of the Filipino people over the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. Thailand likewise conveyed full support for the Philippines’ chairmanship next year.
Both leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in tourism, trade, investments, and private sector engagement, and discussed ways to deepen agricultural exchanges between their countries.
In his talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Joseph Carney, Marcos emphasized the strong people-to-people ties between the Philippines and Canada and thanked Ottawa for its consistent support.
He also highlighted shared values on the rules-based international order, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
According to Castro, Marcos and Carney committed to enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, and energy, and to maintaining constructive engagement within ASEAN.
