Metro Manila, Philippines - Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo secured final spots at the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, while three more Filipinos showed promise at the men’s qualification round.

Yulo only participated for the qualifications in the floor exercise and vault at the Indonesia Arena on Saturday evening, Oct. 19.

The country’s golden boy scored 14.566 points in his floor routine, just behind the best score in the qualifications logged by Jake Jarman of the United Kingdom at 14.7 points.

Yulo showed strength in vault with a Dragulescu and a handspring Randi, earning him an average score of 14.750 to lead the pack.

He bagged gold medals in these two apparatuses at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Philippines was also represented by three more gymnasts in this year’s world competition.

The 22-year-old Juancho Besana scored 13.366 in vault, 12 in floor exercise, 11.6 in horizontal bars, 11.133 in parallel bars, 10.666 in rings, and 9.7 in pommel horse. His all-around score 68.465 to rank 50th in the qualifications.

John Ivan Cruz, 24, tallied 13.516 points in vault and 12 points in floor exercise, while Justine de Leon, also 24, made a 12.2-score in rings.

Yulo, a 25-year-old gymnast from Manila, is expected to display top form in the final rounds of the floor exercise on Friday and vault on Saturday.
