Kevin Quiambao's KBL debut cut short by injury
Metro Manila, Philippines — Kevin Quiambao’s long-awaited Korean Basketball League (KBL) debut was cut short by an injury in the first half of the Goyang Sono Skygunners’ game against the league-leading Seoul SK Knights on Sunday.
Quiambao suffered a right ankle sprain after a bad landing following a three-point attempt at the 7:42 mark in the second quarter with the Knights holding a 30-29 edge, and eventually taking the victory, 84-57.
The two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player (MVP) did not return to play. He finished the contest with six points on two three-pointers made along with a rebound in almost seven minutes of action.
Another Filipino import Juan Gómez de Liaño contributed eight points, three rebounds, and two assists for Seoul.
The Skygunners fell to 9-20 for ninth place in the team standings, while the Knights improved to 22-6.
Meanwhile, UAAP Season 87 Finals MVP JD Cagulangan, also in his KBL debut, had seven points, nine assists, and four rebounds in the Suwon KT Sonicboom's 78-63 loss to the Seoul Samsung Thunders last Friday.
