Metro Manila, Philippines – Far Eastern University’s Janrey Pasaol is set to be hailed the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball tournament.
In a surprising twist, the sophomore guard came out on top of the MVP race at the end of the elimination round.
The 5-foot-11 cager accumulated 81.5 statistical points to snatch the highest individual honor. He bested La Salle’s Mike Phillips who tallied 80.4 statistical points and National University’s Jake Figueroa who got 77.3 statistical points.
Pasaol averaged 15.4 points, 7.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds for FEU in 14 games.
Pasaol becomes the first FEU player to nab the MVP plum since Terrence Romeo won it in Season 76 back in 2013.
With FEU missing the Final Four, this marks the first time that MVP will not be playing in the semifinals since Bobby Ray Parks Jr.’s stint with National University in 2011.
Meanwhile, Collins Akowe will be named the Rookie of the Year for making a huge impact in the University of Santo Tomas’s strong campaign so far this season. He averaged 16.4 points and 14.5 rebounds for the Final Four-bound squad in 14 matches.
